For 15 years, this unique program has been sponsored by The Wood Turning Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This year’s residency takes place in June, July and August, 2010.
As we get closer to start of the residency in June, postings here will be more frequent. In the meantime, we invite you spread the word and tell anyone who loves art made with wood to join us!

The ITE participants begin their residency in Philadelphia in June 2010. They will live, travel, and work independently and collaboratively from June until the first week of August. Typical activities include visits to museums, nature areas, historic sites, and public and private collections of art. Located at University for the Arts (UArts), the residency will focus on research, discussions, studio work, experiments, and collaborations.
The grand finale exhibition for the 2010 ITE program is the exhibit, allTURNatives: Form + Spirit 2010, at the Wood Turning Center from August 6 through September 18, 2010. This multi-disciplinary exhibit will reflect the residents’ experiences including objects produced before and during the residency. Three-dimensional work will be accompanied by photos, essays and other documentation depicting the summer experience. Included will be artists’ statements about their personal and professional experiences. The opening reception and gallery talk takes place on First Friday, August 6, 2010 from 5pm to 7:30 pm.
On Saturday, August 7 from 2pm to 4pm, the residents present a detailed gallery talk for the public about their work and the ITE experience. The First Friday opening and Saturday afternoon discussions are free and open to the public.
The Wood Turning Center is a nonprofit art and educational organization whose goal is to further the growth of artists, exhibition of contemporary wood art, and promoting public appreciation of such art. At its Old City Philadelphia location, the Center features a museum of international contemporary wood art and changing exhibits, a museum collection showing the breadth of wood art, a research library, and eclectic merchandise in the Museum Store.
The Center is open Tuesday – Friday, 10am – 5pm and Saturday 12pm – 5pm. Admission is free. Donations support the Center’s educational programming.
