The Windgate Arts Residency Program (WARP Wood) was established in 1995, and has become an essential destination for artists and researchers from all over the world who are seeking a deeper connection with the material of wood, or are looking to test their vision and skill in a collaborative setting. Now in its twenty-seventh year, the residency is renowned for fostering creativity, excellence, innovation, and scholarship in art in wood.

Selected from a competitive and international pool of applicants, each cohort of Windgate Fellows is made up of professional artists, a student artist, a visual documentarian, and a scholar. The resident fellows arrive in Philadelphia in June and spend the next two months living and working communally. During their residency, they focus on studio work, engage in collaboration and discourse with their peers, and host a public open-studio event that invites the public to view and discuss their work in-process. Their work is presented in a highly anticipated exhibition, which unveils the insights, breakthroughs, and discoveries made by the fellows during their time in the residency.
Thanks to generous support from the Windgate Foundation, an endowment fund was established in 2013 to secure the Windgate International Residency Program’s legacy for many years to come.
