Gina Siepel: To Understand a Tree

o Understand a Tree functions as a small-scale way of exploring big questions about the place of humans in the environment, the scale and speed at which we consume natural resources, and which organisms are included or excluded in a definition of "community."

Experiencing Form: Phil Brown and the Museum’s Residency Artist Alumni

In this exhibition presents bowls and sculpture initiated by Phil Brown and finished by the residency alumni, in a laudatory act of collaboration with this influential and memorable artist.

The Museum for Art in Wood engages, educates, and inspires the public through the exhibition, collection, and interpretation of contemporary art in wood.

Permanent Collection

The permanent collection celebrates contemporary and historic work and encompasses a variety of themes, processes, and materials.

Workshops and Hands-on Activities

The Museum produces a number of events as well as workshops, master classes, and community engagements. Come for a family craft day, attend our signature salon series Object Lesson or join us for an exclusive talk with an artist or a figure from the craft community.

Artist Residencies

For over two decades, the Museum has hosted fellows from around the world for its unique Windgate Arts Residency Program in Wood (WARP Wood). Each summer the residency brings together working artists, a student artist, a visual documentarian, and a scholar to live and work together in Philadelphia.

The Winter Residency is a collaboration between the Museum and NextFab, a network of membership-based maker spaces. The residency supports artists based in the Greater Philadelphia region working in wood and demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

Tours

Guided group tours of the exhibition and collection are $5 per person, lasting 45-60 minutes, and require a minimum of 10 guests. Please book your group tour one month in advance.

The Len Scherock Museum Store offers hand-crafted objects, furniture, and artwork from regional and local artists and makers as well as international artists. Visit our Museum store in person or online to enjoy our selection!
