Six films, six distinct communities, countless Philadelphia stories.
In conjunction with the exhibition Humaira Abid: Searching for Home, Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Porch Light program presents Making Home Movies, a collaborative film project created with newly-arrived immigrant and refugee communities in Philadelphia. Making Home Movies partners adult and youth English language learners with filmmakers and poets to explore the language and imagery of home and to create community together.
Doors open at 6:30 pm and viewing begins at 7:00 pm. Wine and light fare will be available.
This project has been funded by the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIdS). The Porch Light program is a collaboration between Mural Arts Philadelphia and DBHIdS. Partners include the African Cultural Alliance of North America Inc, The Exchange at Oxford Circle, Horace Howard Furness High School, PhillyCAM, Northeast High School, and Southeast by Southeast.
