Part 1: Intro to Texture and Coloration | Thurs, Feb. 20, 2020 | 6:30 – 9 pm | $49 Member single | $59 Non-Member single
Learn how to create beautiful surfaces on wood by applying texture and coloration. There are many fun and easy ways to do it. In this class, you will learn how to safely use simple hand tools to create texture, various coloration options and finishing techniques on wood. By the end of the evening, your many small sample pieces will be turned into refrigerator magnets.

 

Part 2: Intro to Chip Carving | Thurs, Feb. 27, 2020 | 6:30 – 9 pm | $49 Member single | $59 Non-Member single
Chip carving is a traditional technique for creating decorative patterns on wooden surfaces. Whether you have experience in woodworking or not, you can easily learn this technique with just a couple of hand tools. In this class, you will safely learn the basics of how to make various patterns.

Keunho Peter Park is an international artist, woodworker, and instrument maker who teaches at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He holds a B.F.A in painting from South Korea’s Kookmin University and an M.F.A. in Woodworking and Furniture Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Park is also the recipient of the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show’s Wharton Esherick award and the Windgate resident artist at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The Center for Art in Wood is a non-profit arts organization located in Philadelphia that nurtures and promotes the innovation of art in wood through collaborative residencies, exhibitions, education, and documentation.  The Center also maintains an inspirational collection and a research library to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the art.

All materials are included in the cost of the workshop.

Cancelation Policy
Cancelations of a workshop must be made by email. The Center will offer a full refund if notice is given at least 5 business days before the workshop. Refunds will not be given after that date.

The Center for Art in Wood reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to severe weather or unforeseen circumstances. Participants will be notified in advance and offered a full refund.
