Notes: “Till Death Do Us Part,” 2010, from “The Hand of the Maker Series” is the antithesis of my earlier work. To date, it is my most personal work in this series with both my and my husband, Todd Hoyer’s handprints captured upon it. The embellishment is in response to the wood’s grain patterns and flows with it, rather than controls it. It is an organic response to wood, which was once a living entity. “Till Death Do Us Part” is a nod to the material and discipline that created a life collaboration with another wood artist. To death and what is left behind: Wood and the Hand of the Maker.
