Notes: Migration Platter is an abstract wall piece inspired by migrating wildlife around my studio. Although I live among Pacific coastal peoples, I keep my own culture and vision and stay away from their geometrics and elements. Vancouver Island is known for its giant trees, so since 1987 I have been working on larger scale pieces, particularly Wall pieces. The tapestry concept is to draw the viewer into connecting with nature. My process is a simple one, following the grain lines of the wood itself to build a landscape background. The wood tells you how it wants to look - risky at times - but it all works out in the end. Opaque acrylic ink lets the grain speak. The paint brush is a real contrast to my trusty old 084stihl chainsaw, but I’ve discovered you can be creative with both. This piece is a contrast the Helmet, and it also shows me that Canada is now my home.
