Notes: Last summer I found myself blocked for the design for three commissioned music stands. I took the form and structure of “Bopping Walker” and applied it to a spalted birch log sitting in my stash. Then I added the structure needed to convert the sculpture to furniture and just for giggles I stained the structure midnight blue. Inspired by the old hit song “Walking After Midnight,” I called it “Bopping After Midnight.” Incidentally, going back and forth between my drawing board and the “Bopper” in progress resulted in a successful new music stand design. So that’s where ideas come from.
