Celebrate CraftMONTH with this guided tour of two best-in-craft exhibitions at The Fabric Workshop and Museum and The Center for Art in Wood.

At FWM, experience Rose B. Simpson Dream House, an immersive multi-room installation organized as a journey through the artist’s psyche. Inspired by Pueblo architecture, her ancestral landscape, and magical realism, Simpson explores the imprints and through-lines that connect and orient her life as an artist, an Indigenous person, and a mother. Through unique displays of ceramics, textiles, sculptures, paintings, and Simpson’s first-ever works in video, the artist invites us to navigate the contours of intimacy, memory, and belonging.

At The Center for Art in Wood, discover the vessel as a source of inspiration for artists working in wood. Vessel: Embodiment, Autonomy, and Ornament in Wood explores eternal questions of offering and ownership, concealment, and emptiness. For millennia, the idea of the vessel has been used to explain the secrets of the universe. This exhibition, which includes works from the Center’s permanent collection as well as on loan, demonstrates the breadth of reflection, empowerment, subversion, and spiritual awareness inspired by the act of containment and the vessel form.

FWM is located at 1214 Arch Street. After touring Rose B. Simpson: Dream House, stroll down Arch Street and turn left on N 3rd to reach The Center for Art and Wood at 141 N. 3rd Street.

This event is co-organized with CraftNOW in conjunction with CraftMONTH and Rose B. Simpson: Dream House.
