Notes: I made Whale Song from shards of turned-and-cut-apart objects. For many years, these interesting cut-offs have collected in my studio, waiting for my creative attention. A sense of playfulness, a desire to experiment with acrylic paint, and having time to devote to pure exploration came together in 2016. Whale Song originates from the same turning-and-cutting-apart process I used for From Within Our Own Bodies, yet my conceptual thinking now encompasses the residue from a lifetime of artwork. Whale Song may have originated from leftovers, but it represents new beginnings as I continue to explore the possibilities of creating sculpture from lathe-turned forms.
