My first design impulse was to make my mangle board to celebrate our first woman President, thinking that it was a great way to allude to the functions of this antiquated homemaker’s tool. When that didn’t work out as planned, I started working with my second design impulse: to take inspiration from the beautiful Icelandic boards I’d seen in illustrations and make my board in the shape of an animal. As the organization of the Women’s March approached, a third plan emerged: my desired feminist statement required a very angry pussycat.
