Notes: "Display" was one of my projects while I attended the Center’s 2002 ITE (International Turning Exchange). I wanted to create different objects which were made of identically turned pieces. At the ITE, I was a one-man-factory producing only one thing - ebony tubes. This led my ITE fellows to comment "Let's see what our monk is doing today - something new?" After nearly three weeks I could eventually present "Display". Assembly was the key. I took the design from the cell-structure of conifers that can be seen on photographs taken by scanning electron microscopes. Looking from above, "Display" resembles the patterns of xylem and phloem in cross-sections of conifer wood. My participation in the ITE, with the resulting “Display,” was of particular importance for me. On the one hand, it was a door-opener for other exhibitions at the Center such as “Artists at the Lathe,” including publication (2004), and the Center’s 25th anniversary exhibition “Connections” with catalogue (2005). In addition, I had the opportunity to exhibit and talk at the “Recontres Europénnes” conference in France in 2006.
