My work is largely inspired by archeology. Skill of hand can create a sense of value with modest materials and unsophisticated means; it becomes a manifestation of devotion. Using only hand tools forces me to view my process of wood carving as a conversation with the material rather than a dominance of it. With Ceremony, I wanted to create something that could hold and be held. It’s an altarpiece and an offering.
