Notes: Well, after all these years I am still using Madrone, still using roots and still fascinated by this amazing wood. This piece was turned from a green Madrone root and then carved (following the growth lines) while still wet, the movement created by the drying of wood stays in harmony with this surface decoration. After drying, this piece was bleached and then scorched, the flame never touching the bottom of the carved grooves, a fairly delicate and very touchy process.
