DESCRIPTION:Production still from Making Home Movies.\nPostponed – Making Home Movies | a Mural Arts Philadelphia Porch Light program | Fri\, March 20\, 2020 | 6:30 – 8:30 pm | at The Center for Art in Wood\nPlease check back for the new date. \nSix films\, six distinct communities\, countless Philadelphia stories. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition Humaira Abid: Searching for Home\, Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Porch Light program presents Making Home Movies\, a collaborative film project created with newly-arrived immigrant and refugee communities in Philadelphia. Making Home Movies partners adult and youth English language learners with filmmakers and poets to explore the language and imagery of home and to create community together. \nDoors open at 6:30 pm and viewing begins at 7:00 pm. Wine and light fare will be available. \nThis project has been funded by the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIdS). The Porch Light program is a collaboration between Mural Arts Philadelphia and DBHIdS. Partners include the African Cultural Alliance of North America Inc\, The Exchange at Oxford Circle\, Horace Howard Furness High School\, PhillyCAM\, Northeast High School\, and Southeast by Southeast. \n

DESCRIPTION:International Women’s Day Craft Pop-up | at The Center for Art in Wood with Mural Arts Philadelphia | Sat\, March 7\, 2020 | 2 – 4 pm\n  \n\nJoin us for a special pop-up event co-hosted with Mural Arts Philadelphia featuring women artists during the Center’s International Women’s Day Event. Stop by and shop wares from:\n\n\n \n\n\n – Love Lola Knits: Knitwear and “Daughter of an Immigrant” branded shirts by Malika Oyetimein a local theater Director and artist with roots in Nigeria\n\n\n\n– Sahar El Hanafe: An Egyptian textile and crochet artist based in Northeast Philadelphia (handmade doilies\, lace items\, and jewelry)\n\n\n\n– Claudia Peregrina: Mexican community-based artist selling accessories and clothing\n\n\n\n– Refugee Women’s Textile Initiative: a Mural Arts-sponsored cooperative of refugee women from Southeast Philadelphia selling handmade accessories and clothing items. \n\n\n \n\n\nThis event is free to the public. The Center for Art in Wood interprets\, nurtures\, and champions creative engagement and expansion of art\, craft\, and design in wood to enhance the public’s understanding and appreciation of it.
