SUMMARY:CRAFT / FACTURING: AN EVOLUTION OF MAKERS + ENTREPRENEURSHIP FS2016
DESCRIPTION:Furniture Society Conference\, Philadelphia\, PA\nCraft-facturing addresses a contemporary community of Makers who are socially engaged\, collaborative and digitally savvy. New paradigms for making and production\, sharing and distribution are emerging that both support and challenge the more traditional role of the craftsperson in our culture. The 2016 FS conference will frame this moment in Philadelphia’s rich environment as a unique and vital site of past and future crafts activity. \nProgramming at conference aims to offer multiple perspectives. In recent years the programming has blended artist presentations with panel discussions on contemporary topics relevant to the studio furniture community and the conference theme.  Presentations range greatly from technique driven topics to highlighting individual practices\, such as historical or contemporary makers important to the studio furniture field and emerging makers presenting their talented approaches to studio design/build practices. \nIn conjunction with the Furniture Society: \nWorkshop: Seven at the Center: the 2016 Windgate ITE Fellows Collaboration Laboratory\, Thursday\, June 23\, 10:15AM-5:00PMFellows: Amy Forsyth\, Ashley Eriksmoen\, Betty Scarpino\, Katie Hudnall\, Merryll Saylan\, Michaela Crie Stone\, Nucharin Wangphongsawasd; at UArts\, Room J-COS1. The seven Windgate ITE Fellows awarded residencies by The Center for Art in Wood each have a variety of skills and techniques that they employ in their work. SUMMARY:Spanning Generations: A Conversation
DESCRIPTION:A presentation of Craft NOW Philadelphia \nModerators Bruce Metcalf and Judith Schaechter will present a panel discussion consisting of teachers and their choice of an artist they once taught or mentored.  Topics will include the transitions between generations of makers\, transactions between deep knowledge and learning\, and speculation about the future of craft. \nKeynote address by Perry Price\, American Craft Council (ACC) Director of Education \nPanel Discussion between ACC Fellows and Emerging Talent with Meghan Ayers\, Sharon Church\, Chrissy Day\, Ted Hallman\, Kathryn Pannepacker\, Warren Selig\, Paula Winokur\, and Robert Winokur \nAttendees are invited to attend a post-panel reception from 6pm-8pm at the Philadelphia Art Alliance\, located at 251 S 18th Street.
